reasoning

I align myself with Colorado's Academic Standards while sourcing myself with PSD's organized curriculum. My mentor teacher and I also stayed on track with the eighth grade team's goals for the semester. We modified and accommodated to the individual needs of each student; academic rigor and equal access is important to me. I'm a lifelong learner about developing language arts skills that circle around central concepts and evidence-based communication characteristics.

reasoning

Being aware of identities in a classroom helps me support as many students as possible through a positive, nurturing atmosphere that encourages voice. Efficient use of time, consistent structure, communication with parents/guardians, and a strong relationship with students helps set up an environment that is respectful of diverse needs, interests, and abilities.

reasoning

Preparation is vital to the success of students' learning which is why I take significant amounts of time to consider technology tools, a variety of assessment methods, engaging critical thinking activities, and collaborative approaches to work with one another.  I am clear in expectations and responsive about behavior.

reasoning

It was my pleasure to dress professionally each practicum in order to present myself in the best way possible. My students did not have to question where my authority stood. I communicated regularly with my professor and mentor teacher about my career goals and asked for feedback in how to progress. Importantly, I also exemplified mature flexibility and eager leadership with the ever-changing classroom dynamics.

reasoning

Specifically when looking into my future presence in EDUC 450, I want to continually work on responding quickly to difficult situations and conversations, jumping in to be an intentional support to my mentor teacher in order to best serve my students, dedicate time and consideration to understanding the content/curriculum, and engage with the school as a whole since I want to be valuable member of the community.

Teenage Students Raising Hands

take

-away

I saw the hard work teachers can put in so that students reap the reward, but I also saw a deprivation of learning exist with teachers who let their mission go to the wayside. It was watching learning opportunities drain away, out of students' reach, that made me push harder.

I take away a sense of thankfulness for all the amazing resources Boltz provided me along with my professor while I also leave with a bigger fire than I started with.
